Even as Singapore enters into Phase 2 under its phased reopening, nothing has changed in the digital landscape. Employees will continue to work from home as long as they are able to telecommute (Tan, 2020). While primary and secondary students head back to their schools from 29 June 2020 onwards for face-to-face lessons, students in the higher education will continue to have home-based learning (Ministry of Education, 2020). In fact, polytechnic students are conducting their co-curriculum activities (CCAs) online! (Singapore Polytechnic, 2020).
COVID-19 has certainly accelerated the digitalisation of many countries in the world, especially Singapore. There is no going back. A digital future lies ahead for Singapore as Singapore continues its tracks in digitalising the nation. Today, more Food and Beverage (F&B) places are now familiar with digital payment, more companies are now able to utilise various technologies to enable them to work from home more effectively, and eLearning has become the ‘modern face’ of learning for the students and learners.
Every change requires the people to be open-minded and be highly adaptable. Every change requires the people to upgrade their skill-sets to ensure they continue to stay relevant in an ever-changing environment. Training has been the way and will continue to be in equipping the people with the necessary skills they need. Today, training is conducted online – eLearning is the norm.
Yet, virtual training is not just about conducting face-to-face trainings online. It is also about having a Learning Management System (LMS) that brings trainers and training providers together with the learners, from the start of the learners’ learning journey to the end.
