Meet Jia Ying

Meet Jia Ying, our IT Applications Developer Intern who is studying IT Applications Development at ITE College Central. With Jia Ying’s internship coming to an end, we caught up with her to share her thoughts on her overall internship experience with ACP!

Q1: Can you share with us one fun fact about yourself?

I like big animals like Polar bear and Tibetan Mastiff.

Q2: How was the overall internship experience with ACP?

I learned a lot from this internship and gained a lot of work experience. The learning curve was steep but very fulfilling. There was a lot of work which I was not familiar with as things are done differently from what I had learned in school. Hence, the first website took me close to five weeks to complete.

Q3: What are some of the key learning points during your internship with ACP?

Perhaps the most critical realisation is that it is more important that the client likes the look and feel of it, rather than it suiting my own preferences

Communication skills is especially important so that work can be passed on clearly and would avoid unnecessary time spent in asking back and forth which could possibly delay the completion of the projects

I also learned how website are created in the real-world and what are things that need to be done after the website goes live

Q4: What are your key accomplishments during your internship with ACP?

I managed to complete 5 websites in 10 weeks; approximately 2 websites a week.

Q5: How does your internship experience positively prepare you for the working world in the future?

I am now more mentally and emotionally prepared for my future job especially on how to work under pressure

Documentation of work is not just for others to keep track or to make it easier to do a hand-over, it helps me to see clearly on the areas for improvement such that when I face similar challenges again, I would be able to overcome it with greater ease.

Q6: What message would you give to future interns at ACP?

Do not give up if you face difficulties. Push through and learn from them as much as possible; it may be hard at first but you would gain a lot after your period of stay!

From everyone here at ACP, we wish Jia Ying all the best!
